The Shiba

31 Aug

Hello my darlings! Today the Shiba’s going to be in the center. First of all, you should know, that this dog is vary familiar to the well known Hachiko (Akita), in fact, I was pretty confused my self! 😀 The Shiba is a very intelligent dog, it loves to play, and it’s very loyal. The Shiba Inu was originally bred for hunting. (It’s hunter dogs everyday now!) 😀 Inu is the Japanese word for “dog”, and Shiba means “brushwood”. 🙂 The “brushwood” refers to a type f tree or shrub, whose leaves turn red in the fall. Because of that people say that there might be two different reasons for it to be called Shiba:

1. Because the Shiba was used for hunting in wild shrubs.

2. Because the Shibas most common color is red(-ish).

In old Nagano the word Shiba also meant “small”, which refers to the dogs small size! So, the Shiba Inu was translated: “Little Brushwood Dog”!

The Shiba is a very powerful dog, although it is a little bit stumpy. The sizes are:

The males are 35-43 centimeters.

The females are 33-41 cm.

The male weighs 10 kilograms.

The female weighs 8 kg.

It has double coat, which means, that its outer coat is straight and stiff, and its inner coat is thick and soft. Its fur is short, it’s like 2 inches long. On the tail lies on the back or one side, it’s brush-like, and it’s little longer than its coat. Its coat can be red, black, tan, or sesame, sometimes combine the four, and if it is, then it is beautiful! (In my opinion). Some owners struggle with it, ’cause it hate it when you try to train them, but like all the dogs, it’s much easier to train them when they’re young.

Warning!

The Shiba must always be on leas except in secured area, because of its strength, and it waywardness!

It usual life-time is about 12 to 15 years. Take long walks, exercises, and play games, so it will live a long and healthy life. These dogs (in good cases) are very clean, so the grooming issues will be minimal. You will have to brush him or her several times, but other than that, there will be no such problem with cleaning it for hours.

Well, I told you every information I could, so good luck with your new puppy, and bye! Don’t forget to write a comment, and check out the cool pictures!
